• The Indian Navy will commission INS Nipun, its second indigenous Nistar-class Diving Support Vessel (DSV), on August 31, 2026, in Mumbai. Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, the specialized ship boosts national defense capabilities in deep-sea diving, underwater intervention, and submarine rescue operations.
• India’s steel sector recorded strong growth during April–July 2026, driven by infrastructure and construction demand. Finished steel consumption rose 7.9% to 56 million tonnes (MT), outpacing production, which grew 4.7% to 54.7 MT. Key highlights include a 36.6% surge in imports (with China and South Korea as major suppliers) and exceptional growth in the alloy steel segment, where production jumped 26.7%.
• Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha (AGMUT: 1992 batch) has been appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Delhi Home Guards Directorate. He will officially take over as the Director General (DG) of Home Guards starting October 1, 2026, succeeding Virender Singh, who retires on September 30, 2026. Prior to this, Golcha has held several high-profile roles, including serving as Delhi Police Commissioner and Director General (Prisons), Delhi.
• India Post has launched upgraded versions of the Dak Seva and Dak Mitra apps to digitally modernize postal services across the country.
  • Dak Seva (Citizen-Centric): Designed for public convenience, allowing users to track consignments, locate nearby post offices and PIN codes, book services, and register complaints. It features multilingual support in 23 Indian languages via the BHASHINI platform.
  • Dak Mitra (Employee-Centric): Built for Branch Postmasters across more than 1.4 lakh Branch Post Offices to digitize everyday operations. Developed indigenously by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) under the DoP IT 2.0 modernization plan, it handles transactions like cash deposits/withdrawals, insurance services, doorstep deliveries, and e-KYC.
• Fino Payments Bank’s board has approved a three-month extension for Ketan Merchant to continue serving as the interim Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
• United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed is on an official visit to India (August 26–28, 2026) to strengthen UN-India cooperation and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
