Rule (21): Pronouns with with
with ਨਾਲ Pronouns ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ
When two nouns are joined by with, the pronoun and adjective must agree with the first noun (before with), not the second.
ਜਦੋਂ ਦੋ nouns with ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਣ, ਤਾਂ pronoun ਅਤੇ adjective ਪਹਿਲੇ noun ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾ ਕਿ ਦੂਜੇ noun ਦੇ।
- The girl with her parents has gone to see a movie. (Correct)
Here, girl is the first noun (singular, female), so the pronoun is her.
ਇੱਥੇ girl ਪਹਿਲਾ noun ਹੈ (ਇਕਵਚਨ, ਇਸਤਰੀ), ਇਸ ਲਈ pronoun her ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The girl with their/his parents has gone to see a movie. (Incorrect) - The children with their parents have gone to picnic. (Correct)
Here, children is the first noun (plural), so the pronoun is their.
ਇੱਥੇ children ਪਹਿਲਾ noun ਹੈ (ਬਹੁਵਚਨ), ਇਸ ਲਈ pronoun their ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The children with his/her/its parents have gone to picnic. (Incorrect)
With with, always match the pronoun/adjective to the first noun.
with ਨਾਲ pronoun ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਪਹਿਲੇ noun ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਰਤੋ।
Rule (22): Two Singular Nouns with and → One Person/Thing → Singular Pronoun
ਦੋ Singular Nouns and ਨਾਲ → ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ/ਚੀਜ਼ → Singular Pronoun
When two or more singular nouns are joined by and, but they refer to one person or one thing, the subject is treated as singular.
In this case, we use singular pronouns/adjectives (he, his, it, its).
ਜਦੋਂ ਦੋ ਜਾਂ ਵੱਧ singular nouns and ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਣ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜਾਂ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਬੋਧ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਣ, ਤਾਂ subject ਨੂੰ singular ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ singular pronouns/adjectives (he, his, it, its) ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Here, my senior and proprietor both describe the same person → pronoun/adjective is his.

Here, beautiful city and capital of India both describe the same place → pronoun/adjective is its.
ਇੱਥੇ beautiful city ਅਤੇ capital of India ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ → pronoun/adjective its ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
Delhi, the beautiful city and the capital of India, is famous for their historical monuments. (Incorrect)
With and, if the nouns describe the same person/thing, use singular pronoun.
ਜਦੋਂ and ਨਾਲ nouns ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜਾਂ ਚੀਜ਼ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ pronoun singular ਵਰਤੋ।
Rule (23): Many a/an + Singular Noun → Singular Pronoun
Many a/an + Singular Noun → Singular Pronoun
When many a/an + singular noun is used as the subject, it is treated as singular.
In this case, we use singular pronouns/adjectives (he, his, she, her, it, its) — not plural (they, their).
ਜਦੋਂ many a/an + singular noun ਨੂੰ subject ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ singular ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ singular pronouns/adjectives (he, his, she, her, it, its) ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ — ਨਾ ਕਿ plural (they, their).
- Many a soldier has met his death in the battlefield. (Correct)
Here, soldier is singular, so the pronoun is his.

Many a/an always takes a singular pronoun because it refers to each one individually.

Rule (24): You and I → Plural Pronoun
You ਅਤੇ I → Plural Pronoun
When You and I are used as the subject of a sentence, they are treated as plural.
In this case, we use plural pronouns/adjectives (we, us, our, ours, ourselves).
ਜਦੋਂ You and I sentence ਦੇ subject ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ plural ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ plural pronouns/adjectives (we, us, our, ours, ourselves) ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
- You and I must obey our parents. (Correct)
Here, You and I together form a plural subject, so the pronoun is our.

In this case, the pronoun/adjective must agree with we/us/our/ours/ourselves (first person plural).
ਜਦੋਂ He and I sentence ਦੇ subject ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ subject plural ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Here, He and I together form a plural subject, so the pronoun is our and reflexive pronoun is ourselves.

except ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ Pronoun Objective Case ਵਿੱਚ
When a pronoun follows except, it must be in the objective case (me, him, her, us, them) — not in the nominative case (I, he, she, we, they).
ਜਦੋਂ except ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ pronoun ਆਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ objective case (me, him, her, us, them) ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ — ਨਾ ਕਿ nominative case (I, he, she, we, they)।
- Everyone attended the party except him. (Correct)
Here, him is objective case, which is correct.
ਇੱਥੇ him objective case ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਹੀ ਹੈ। - Everyone attended the party except he. (Incorrect)
Here, he is nominative case, which is wrong.
ਇੱਥੇ he nominative case ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗਲਤ ਹੈ।
After except, always use objective case pronouns.

Rule (30): Pronouns after such as
such as ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ Pronoun Nominative Case ਵਿੱਚ
When a pronoun follows such as, it must be in the nominative case (I, he, she, we, they) — not in the objective case (me, him, her, us, them).
ਜਦੋਂ such as ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ pronoun ਆਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ nominative case (I, he, she, we, they) ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ — ਨਾ ਕਿ objective case (me, him, her, us, them)।
- I have no liking for such a man as he. (Correct)
Here, he is nominative case, which is correct.
ਇੱਥੇ he nominative case ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਹੀ ਹੈ। - I have no liking for such a man as him. (Incorrect)
Here, him is objective case, which is wrong.
ਇੱਥੇ him objective case ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗਲਤ ਹੈ।
After such as, always use nominative case pronouns.

Rule (31): Sequence of we, you, they
we, you, they ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਮ
When the plural pronouns we, you, and they are used together in a sentence, the correct order is:
we → you → they
ਜਦੋਂ plural pronouns we, you, ਅਤੇ they ਇਕੱਠੇ sentence ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ ਸਹੀ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੈ:
we → you → they
- We, you and they must work together. (Correct)
This follows the correct sequence.
If the order is changed (e.g., you, we and they or they, you and we), it is considered incorrect in standard grammar usage.
ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ (ਜਿਵੇਂ you, we and they ਜਾਂ they, you and we), ਤਾਂ ਇਹ standard grammar ਵਿੱਚ ਗਲਤ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
