The 31-year-old Naib Subedar in the Indian Army cleared a best height of 2.25 meters, surpassing Tejaswin Shankar’s bronze medal effort at Birmingham 2022 to claim India’s finest result in the discipline.
- Indian weightlifter Valluri Ajaya Babu clinched the silver medal in the men’s 79kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In a high-stakes duel that came down to the final lifts, the 21-year-old finished just 1 kg behind Malaysia’s Erry Hidayat Muhammad.
- Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav won the silver medal in the women’s 53kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Making her Commonwealth Games debut, the 23-year-old from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, achieved a personal-best total lift of 199 kg, briefly setting Games records in a back-and-forth duel with Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih.

- The Union Government has allocated a record ₹95,692 crore (Central Share) for rural employment under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025 for Financial Year 2026–27. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted that this is the highest-ever Budget Estimate allocation made for any rural employment programme in India.
- India’s first direct commercial container freight train reached Nepal, transporting 1,225 tonnes of canola across 40 wagons without requiring border transshipment. Operated by Indian Railways under the revised India–Nepal Rail Transit Protocol, the train traveled along the newly commissioned broad-gauge railway line from Kolkata Port (India) to the Biratnagar Customs Yard (Nepal Side) via Jogbani.
- The Delhi High Court ordered the winding up of Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) upon an application filed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under Sections 38 and 39 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
