- The Punjab Government has introduced two bills in the upcoming monsoon session to regularize about 65,000 outsourced workers in the state from 51 different departments. These are the Punjab State Outsourced Personnel (Transition to Contractual Engagement) Bill, 2026, and the Punjab Contractual Personnel (Absorption Against Sanctioned Vacancies) Bill, 2026.
- D.K. Shivakumar has become the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka after Siddaramaiah resigned from the post.
- According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS‑6), Arunachal Pradesh has the highest alcohol consumption in India, with 50.5 percent of men consuming alcohol. It also ranks first in women’s alcohol consumption at 23.2 percent, followed by Telangana and Sikkim. Mizoram records the highest tobacco use among both men and women. In North India, Himachal Pradesh is the top consumer of alcohol at 30.2 percent, while Chandigarh has the highest obesity rate.
