  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his tour of Australia, signed a key Uranium supply pact at the 3rd India–Australia Annual Summit. Alongside this, Victoria University will establish a campus in Gurugram, while Flinders University is set to open a campus in Bengaluru. A Rooftop Solar Training Academy will also be launched in Gandhinagar with Australia’s support. In addition, India will receive the return of sacred antiquities: the bull Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva from Tamil Nadu dating to the 11th–12th century; an 11th‑century bronze trident associated with the auspicious goddess Kali (Bhadrakali); and a 12th‑century basalt sculpture of the six‑headed Skanda.
  • Punjabi filmmaker Gurvinder Singh’s movie Rehmat has been selected for the main competition at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, which will be held in Switzerland from 5 to 15 August. It will compete for the festival’s top prize, the Golden Leopard, which carries a cash award of CHF 75,000 (approximately ₹88 lakh). Locarno is considered one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, alongside Venice, Cannes, and Berlin.
  • Jalandhar teenage girl Inayat Gulati, at the age of 14, has been selected for the sub‑junior Indian badminton team, making her one of the youngest girls from Punjab to join the national squad. She is only the second girl from Jalandhar to enter the national team, after Manya Ralhan in the junior category.
  • The Government of India has waived basic customs duty on goods used in the manufacturing of display assemblies, lithium‑ion cells, and inductor coil modules to promote domestic production of electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, wearables, and smart TVs.
  • India’s Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V. Anantha Nageswaran stated that India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) contributed close to 2% of the country’s GDP, having crossed $64 billion, at the CII GCC Business Summit in New Delhi.
  • AustralianSuper, which is Australia’s largest pension fund, will invest about $346 million in India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), according to AustralianSuper Chief Executive Officer Paul Schroder.
  • Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a new project named Promoting Regenerative Agriculture, Growth, Agri‑Entrepreneurship and Transformative Innovation (PRAGATI). The initiative aims to empower 20,000 rural agri‑entrepreneurs and improve the livelihoods of 20 lakh small and marginal farmers.
  • India hosted the 13th ASEAN–India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Joint Committee Meeting at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi from 6 to 10 July 2026. At the meeting, all ten ASEAN member countries were present to review the progress of negotiations, resolve pending issues, and strengthen economic cooperation.
  • The Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM & WS), Pahalgam, successfully completed a challenging mountaineering expedition to the Mount Khyam Tso Massif in the Rumtse Phu region of Ladakh.
  • The Government of India has notified that Navi Mumbai International Airport has been designated as a port for the import of drugs under the Drugs Rules, 1945, by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. With this, the total number of ports of entry in India for drug imports has increased to 42.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Mahesh Muralidhar Pai as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of South Indian Bank for a three‑year term.
  • The 23rd National‑level Border Coordination Meeting was held between India and Myanmar in New Delhi on 7–8 July 2026 to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening border management, regional connectivity, and bilateral security cooperation. During the meeting, India’s Neighbourhood First Policy, Act East Policy, and the MAHASAGAR vision—reflecting the strategic importance of Myanmar in India’s global engagement—were also discussed.
  • In another milestone, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted the Integrated Main Parachute Airdrop Test‑05 (IMAT‑05) for India’s Gaganyaan Mission, the country’s first human spaceflight programme, at the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE).
  • In another achievement, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, has become the 6th happiest city globally and the only Indian city to be included in the top 10 of the Happy City Index 2026. London has secured the top position as the happiest city in the world.
